Students and staff at Luther College High School went around their school and the city of Regina to provide services for the greater community.
The school was bustling with activity Wednesday, including a bake sale and blue and yellow ribbon sale in the school’s common area.
Student Anya Shyian described what they’re doing.
“We’re doing various different things to fundraise for the Canadian Ukrainian fund, which is for humanitarian relief,” Shyian said. “We’re planning to do a car wash when the weather warms up. We’re doing bake sales and lemonade stands. Just anything we can do to raise funds for humanitarian aid.”
The school has an annual Service Day, which allows the students their choice of 24 projects around the city and area.
For Shyian, raising money for displaced Ukrainian citizens meant something personal, as she is from Ukraine.
“All my family is from there, so this is a situation that hits very close to home,” she said. “Among other donations we’re organized within the school we just wanted to do anything we can to help.”
Other students of Luther had projects that were being done included working at the Salvation Army and North Central Family Centre, and anti-poverty advocacy.
