Riders add three from global draft

 

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have added some international flavour to their roster as they made three selections from the CFL’s Global Draft on Tuesday morning.

The Roughriders selected linebacker Jordan Genmark Heath from Sweden with the 5th overall selection in the draft.

Genmark Heath spent time in the NCAA with a pair of highly regarded teams, the UCLA Bruins and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.  During the 2021 season with the Bruins, Genmark Heath collected 3.5 sacks and registered a pair of interceptions.

Before suiting up for the Bruins, Genmark Heath spent three seasons with the Fighting Irish. Genmark was raised in Stockholm before moving to the USA when he was 14.

The Roughriders continued to add to their linebacking group with their second pick(14th overall) in the Global Draft with Linebacker Lucas Ruoss from Switzerland. The linebacker has been a member of the Switzerland national team since 2012.

Ruoss played his collegiate football with West Hills College and American River College before moving to Bemidji State University.

The Switzerland native spent time in the German league was invited to the NFL International Combine in London last year.

This past February Ruoss signed with the Rhein Fire of the European League of Football.

With their third and final selection (23rd overall) of the Global Draft, the Riders picked up Maceo Beard-Aigret, a safety who hails from France. Beard-Aigret first started playing American football in 2016.

In 2017, Beard-Aigret made the France U19 in both 2017 & 2018 before moving on to the senior team in 2019.

The drafting will continue for the Saskatchewan Roughriders as the CFL Draft takes place Tuesday evening.
