Saskatchewan team wins U-18 boys national curling title

Saskatoon’s Matthew Drewitz rink won the National Under 18 boys curling championship Saturday 5-4 over Nova Scotia at Oakville, Ontario.

The rink, which includes third Michael Hom, second Carter Parenteau and lead Jared Tessier,  went 5-1 in the round robin before going undefeated in the playoffs.

This was the first time the event was happened since 2019 due to the pandemic.

The Drewitz team, based out of Saskatoon Nutana, was one of two Saskatchewan-based boys teams in the tournament, along with Regina Highland’s Braydon Heistad.

On the girls side, the Elizabeth Kessel rink from the Balgonie Curling Club went 4-2 in the round robin before bowing out in the playoff round to Quebec and the consolation round to New Brunswick.

The Savanna Taylor rink from Saskatoon Nutana went 2-4 in the round robin before winning the C1 consolation final 6-4 over Prince Edward Island.
