Players at Practice, Despite No CBA

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced its practice for training camp in Saskatoon will be going ahead today.

That news comes just hours after the players voted to reject the contract offer from the CFL, that ended a short strike at the start of training camp.

Reports are the players were not happy there wasn’t a signing bonus included in the deal,  especially the veteran players.  The other sticking point was adjustments the league wanted to make to the Canadian ratio, in other words how many Canadian players are on the roster.

The Canadian Football League, and the Canadian Football League Players Association are planning on meeting informally today.

And while practice is going ahead today, that doesn’t mean it will be tomorrow, depending on the outcome of talks to get the contract back on track.

This latest wrinkle in labour negotiations will need to be worked out quickly, with the first CFL pre season game scheduled for this Friday, May 27th.

The Riders first pre season game is one week from tonight, as they host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
