Mason Fine Ready for Pre Season Reps

Its been a while since the Roughriders have tumbled out of their locker room at Mosaic, and onto the sacred field while thousands of fans scream and shout.

Its happening tomorrow.

Sure, its pre season, but its an important step on the road to the start of the season, June 11th.

Tomorrow. the defending champ Winnipeg Blue Bombers will be in town, and its a little ironic, as its clear this is the team the Riders will have to beat if they have any hope of being on the field, instead of the stands when Saskatchewan hosts the Grey Cup in November.

Getting reps in practice is one thing, but performing in a game setting is what this pre season schedule is all about.  One of the players who is really looking for a chance to show what he can do is quarterback Mason Fine.

Fine is in his second season with the club, and he feels he has taken some steps from his first season.  Fine says the game is slowing down for him a bit now, and he is having a better time reading defensive coverage and schemes. He should be taking the snaps from centre initially tomorrow against the Blue Bombers.

“When you compare my grading from my rookie year to my second year, I think I have made quite the jump.” Fine said after a walk-through by the club.

“Obviously you are going to make mistakes out there, but I think the biggest thing is showing you are making that jump from year to year.”

The knock on Fine has always been his lack of size, it was even a huge obstacle in his colligate career, but his numbers from North Texas where he went to college do jump off the page a little.

In four years Fine threw for over 12 thousand yards, and 91 touchdowns.

The Riders Game will kick off at 6:30 pm, on 620 CKRM.  The pre-game show will get things going at 3:30 pm.
