There were 364 new lab confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in Saskatchewan this week, which was about the same as the previous week when we had 376.
Test positivity is down to 5.3 per cent, a decrease from the previous week which had 5.5 per cent positivity.
Hospitalizations are down slightly this week, from 258 to 232, with six people in ICU this week compared to 10 last week.
There were nine newly reported COVID deaths as well. Five were above age 80, while there were one each in their 60s and 70s and two between the ages of 40 and 59.This brings the total to 1,386 cases with a fatal outcome since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the report released Thursday.
The number of new active outbreaks in long term and personal care homes is at three, compared to 25 back in late April. Thirty-seven outbreaks in those places are currently active in the province.
The report said that “Overall in Saskatchewan, the rates of COVID-19 hospitalization, ICU admission and deaths are higher among people who are unvaccinated than among people with two or three vaccinations.”
It said that lower rates of sever outcomes in the three dose group compared to the two dose group are suggestive of the added benefits of the booster dose.
“Unvaccinated people were about six times more likely to die than people who were vaccinated with three doses when adjusted for age,” the report said.
