Stanley Mission Facing Threat From Wildfire

People living in the northern community of Stanley Mission, north-east of LaRonge have been told to pack their valuables, and be ready to go on a moments notice.

Its because of a large wildfire burning near the community.  Earlier this week smoke from that fired triggered air quality warnings in the region.

The fire has charred over 35 hundred hectares.  Its being attacked by crews both from the air and on the ground.

The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency is monitoring the situation, and working closely with the local first nation.

According to the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency website, there are four active fires in Saskatchewan, right now.

There has been 117 fires so far this season, slightly below the five year average of 124.
