Stand with Ukraine Benefit Day provides helping hand

The Stand with Ukraine Benefit Day was an overwhelming success on Sunday.

A packed house filled the Regina Performing Arts Centre to witness performances from Ukrainian dancers, along with Hungarian, Romanian and Polish dancers.

The event was able to raise over $22,715. All of the money will be used to aid Ukrainian refugees who will be settling in Saskatchewan in the near future.

Organizer Sarah Fidirko was happy to see Ukrainians in attendance on Sunday to witness firsthand the support from the community. “We have families here today coming out to experience their culture and getting to know the people in their community that are supporting them that have the same background as them, the same culture , the same passion, it’s been really amazing to see those connections formed and give them a little bit of home while they are here.”

The money will be distributed through the Ukrainian Canadian Congress Sask. Division with all of the money remaining in the province.  Fidirko noted the organizers were adamant the proceeds remains within Saskatchewan.

Even though the Stand with Ukraine Benefit Day event has come to an end, the Ukrainian Canadian Congress Sask. Division will continue to collect donations to help with the Ukrainian refugees that should be arriving soon.
