Lunchtime supervision fee being implemented in Regina and Saskatoon

School divisions in Saskatchewan’s biggest cities will implement new lunchtime supervision fees when the bell rings in the next school year.

The Regina Catholic School Division, Saskatoon Public Schools, and Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools have announced they will make the change.

For Regina Catholic, an approved $70 annual fee for elementary students who go every day and $35 for part-time kindergarten students. Fees for families who have more than two students in the division will be capped at $140.

Seven schools with a 30-minute lunch break will be excluded from the charge. (Holy Rosary, Sacred Heart, St. Augustine, St. Francis, St. Michael, St. Maria Faustina, and St. Luke)

Saskatoon Public Schools fee will be $100-per-child if the child does not go home during lunch.

The fee will be capped at $200 for families with more than two kids in the school system with parents experiencing financial hardships will be exempt.

The Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools will implement a $70 per year per student fee for lunch supervision, or $7 per month.

Families of half-time kindergarten students will have to pay $35 per year, and fees will be capped at $140 per family.

The supervision fee is nothing new for the Regina Public School Division. They have had the supervision fee since 2016, costing $100 per child with a maximum of $200 per family.
