Seeding near completion in South east Sask

Seeding is nearing completion in the southeast part of Saskatchewan.

The crops extension specialist in Weyburn, Sherri Roberts says seeding has been delayed by heavy rain in some parts of the southeast but is nearing an end.

She says some are seeding greenfeed for livestock but the vast majority are done.

She says some areas will not be seeded because of excess moisture, but those areas will be spotty across the southeast.

Soil moisture is described as more than adequate and many crops are looking good.

Sadly, she says there are already some diseases like tan spot and farmers need to be scouting their fields early.

There are also reports of flea beetles.

She says crops need some heat for proper development.
