Electricity Rates Going Up, Natural Gas is Next

Costs for everything are going up, and here are a couple of more things you will be potentially paying more for.

First, Sask Power has been given the green light by the Sask Rate Review Panel to increase rates for customers.

After an increase April 1st of this year , the Rate Review Panel is okaying three more increases. One in September of four percent, one in January 2023 to cover the increase in the carbon tax, and another 4 percent increase in April of Next Year. That increase still needs the approval of the provincial government.

Date Monthly Bill

Before Taxes

Monthly Bill Including Taxes Reason for Increase
April 1, 2022 $112 $133
September 1, 2022 $119 $140 4% Rate Increase
January 1, 2023 $119 $142 Carbon Tax Increase
April 1, 2023 $123 $147 Second 4% Rate Increase

Sask Energy has applied to the Rate Review Panel for two increases in the next three years. One that will add on average almost 12 dollars per month to your bill.
Year two would see an increase of $2.43, and then $2.53 in year three.

Add those up, 16 dollars more per month over the next three years.

“SaskEnergy’s residential customers currently have the lowest natural gas bills in Canada and will continue to have the lowest natural gas bills in the country if this proposal is approved,” Acting President and CEO Mark Guillet said.

Its not known when the Rate Review Panel will make its recommendations on Sask Energy’s request.
