Fitting its a country themed night at Mosaic Stadium this evening as two of the top gunslingers in the CFL’s wild west go head to head when the Saskatchewan Roughriders meet the BC Lions.
Cody Fajardo returns to the Riders lineup after missing last week’s game due to a bout with a COVID-19 illness. Home turf is proving to be a comfortable situation for the Nevada product, as he’s currently third on the all time list of home record winning percentages for a starting quarterback. The Riders QB is fourth in the CFL right now in touchdowns (8) and fifth in passing yards (1488) on the season.
An early season Most Outstanding Player candidate, Nathan Rourke has taken the league by storm with an impressive start to the season. The Canadian QB is tops in the league with 14 touchdowns and is averaging 321 yards passing per game this year. Last season Rourke made his debut with the Lions at Mosaic Stadium, playing in relief for the injured Michael Reilly to begin the game. Over his last three games, Rourke has tossed seven touchdowns with six interceptions. Also over the last three games, the QB only has eight yards rushing, including a pair of games with zero yards.
Saskatchewan will have a full roster at their disposal this week following last week’s struggle to field a full team due to the COVID situation. Duke Williams returns after missing last week’s game as he served a one game suspension.
Some changes to the offensive line for Saskatchewan this week. With Logan Bandy out, he will be replaced by Logan Ferland at centre. Josiah St. John will get his first start of the season at left guard and Terran Vaughn returns from a shoulder injury at left tackle.
On the defensive side of the ball for the green and white, Nick Marshall returns to his starting spot at cornerback after he missed last week with an illness.
The Riders and the Lions are going to become well acquainted with each other over the next month as the two teams complete their three game series. Following tonight’s game, the Riders will meet the Lions at Mosaic Stadium on Friday August 19. A week later, the two teams will face off in their lone matchup at BC Place, on August 26.
