Riders Add Two Players As Bye Week Ends

As the Saskatchewan Roughriders have been nursing their wounds, and getting some rest for the bye week, the front office made some moves.

The team announced it had signed National linebacker Jordan Herdman-Reed and American wide receiver Austin Watkins Jr.

Herdman-Reed is a familiar face for two reasons with the Green and White.  First, he was on the team in 2021, but was sidelined with a knee injury.  Before coming to Saskatchewan, Herdman-Reed was with the BC Lions. The other reason he is a familiar face, is his twin brother Justin is a linebacker with the Riders.

Watkins signed with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2021 earning a spot on the practice roster. Earlier in 2022, he spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The 24-year-old played three collegiate seasons (2018-2020) at the University of Alabama-Birmingham.

The Riders will return to the practice field this week, as they prepare for a visit to Edmonton and a date with the Elks Saturday August 13th.  The Elks are coming off a 46-14 beating, at the hands of the BC Lions, at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, Saturday night.
