Regina police find loaded firearm in stolen vehicle

An investigation into a stolen white, 2022 Volkswagen Taos SUV that was reported two weeks ago ended up having a major impact on public safety.

While the Regina Police Service was pursuing the vehicle, they found a loaded firearm.

The vehicle was first reported stolen on August 8th from a garage in the 800 block of MacNiven Avenue.

Last Saturday night on August 27th, the Regina Police Service spotted the vehicle heading north on Albert Street. Police then followed the vehicle into a parking lot on the 400 block of Broad Street North. A female driver and a male passenger left the vehicle and went into a business.

Not long after, both suspects were arrested at 10:50 pm. After the suspects were taken into custody, police searched the vehicle and found a loaded, sawed-off .22-calibre semi-automatic rifle, a can of bear spray, and a license plate which was confirmed to be stolen.

Both suspects were also in violation of court-ordered conditions.

23 year-old Taylor Chase Genaille and 36 year-old Jamal Delmar McArthur, both of Regina are jointly charged with:

  • Possession of stolen property (vehicle) over $5,000.
  • Possession of a weapon (bear spray) for a purpose dangerous to public peace.
  • Possession of stolen property (license plate) under $5,000.
  • Careless use of a firearm.
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle.
  • Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition.

McArthur is also charged with possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order, possession of ammunition contrary to prohibition order, and Breach of probation.

Genaille is also charged with breach of conditions of a release order and unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon.

Both suspects made their first court appearance early Monday morning.
