RCMP release update on stabbing investigation – more injured

The Saskatchewan RCMP released an update on the continued investigation of the stabbing spree that occurred yesterday in North Central Saskatchewan.

RCMP and Police are searching for Damien and Myles Sanderson.

As a result of the investigation, official warrants have been set out for their arrest.

“To the people of Saskatchewan and beyond – please be assured that we are using every human, investigational and technological resource we have available to locate and arrest the persons responsible for this tragedy and to ensure your safety,” says Saskatchewan RCMP Commander Officer A/Commr. Rhonda Blackmore in a news release.

“Hundreds of Saskatchewan RCMP staff are dedicated to this investigation – this includes operators taking 911 calls and tips, to frontline officers patrolling our streets to the on-scene specialized forensic and Major Crime Unit teams who continue to follow up on all information and evidence gathered,” she says.

The RCMP also released the charges that the suspects are facing:

Myles Sanderson is charged with: three counts of first degree murder, one count of attempted murder, and one count of break and enter of a residence.

Damien Sanderson is charged with: one count of first degree murder, one count of attempted murder, and one count of break and enter of a residence.

The RCMP also reported that 3 more people have been found injured, bringing the total injuries up to 18 from 15.

The RCMP states that they continue to work closely with Regina Police Service, as the investigation determined the suspects may be in the City of Regina.

Resources from Manitoba RCMP, Alberta RCMP, partner police agencies, and the Province of Saskatchewan are also assisting in the investigation.

With the assistance of these partners, Saskatchewan RCMP is also ensuring those affected by this tragedy, both on James Smith Cree Nation and in Weldon, are offered appropriate supports and resources.
