RCMP Searching for two suspects after incident at Witchekan Lake First Nation

The Spiritwood RCMP are continuing their investigation, after a second “dangerous persons” alert in as many days in Saskatchewan.

Earlier today, the RCMP in Spiritwood put out an alert, after reports of gun fire on the Witchekan Lake First Nation, just north of Spiritwood.

The alert then went provincewide, as police were searching for a dark red Ford Mustang, but that car was found, and is now not part of the investigation.  Police are still trying to find 22 year old Kelly Witchekan and Melvin Starblanket. Witchekan has brown hair and eyes, and is 5’9” and 140 lbs. Starblanket is 33-years-old. He has black hair and brown eyes, and is 5’9” inches and 160 lbs.

Police have not given any further details about what took place on the first nation, or if there were injuries.  Police do say they do not believe this is connected to the on-going investigation at the James Smith Cree Nation, also the subject of a “dangerous persons” alert.

The RCMP say they will be continuing to have a presence on the first nation.  Police also say “residents in Witchekan Lake First Nation should continue to take appropriate precautions”.
