Myeloma March returns to Regina today

Regina’s Myeloma March is back today after a hiatus from the pandemic.

The march is a fundraiser for Myeloma disease, and it also has a goal of spreading awareness.

“Myeloma is the second most common form of blood cancer. It’s a cancer that effects a type of white blood cell called a plasma cell that is found in the bone marrow. Those plasma cells are responsible for our immune system,” says Michelle Oana, Director of Development and Community Relations at Myeloma Canada.

This year, the campaign has a goal of raising $20,000 for Myeloma research.

Regina, along with dozens of other communities across the province, is kicking off their Myeloma March today, with registration opening at 9:30 at Rick Hansen Optimist Playground.

“People are invited to come with themselves, their teams, their families. It’s really just a fun event to hang out with the community and raise awareness for the disease,” says Oana.

The march is 5 km walk around the lake that’s near the park.

Donations can be made in person at the event or online through Myeloma Canada’s website. More information on the disease and their fundraiser can also be found online.
