AGT Foods of Regina has reached a partnership agreement with U.S.-based Equinom to expand development of new high protein yellow pea varieties.
Equinom develops new pea crop varieties and AGT will use its pulse processing facilities to expand its ingredient portfolio.
AGT president Murad Al-Katib says there are great opportunities to create new and innovative plant-based protein products using the ultra-high protein yellow pea varieties from Equinom.
He says the pea protein will expand the non-gmo, gluten free and hypoallergenic plant-based protein concentrates, flours and starches from pulses.
He says the new varieties offer reduced sodium and increased fiber with reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, water and energy use.
