Saskatchewan Roughriders linebacker Darnell Sankey has announced details on his upcoming community event to help out the homelessness in Regina.
Next Friday, September 23, Sankey will be hosting a community BBQ at the Mamaweyatitan Centre from 4-7 pm.
There is a way for fans to help out if they choose so, on September 21 & 22, at the south side of the centre at the loading dock, from 11:30-5:00 on each day, they will be collecting items that will be used to create grocery bags that will be handed out to the community at the BBQ.
Items that will be accepted for donations include oranges, bananas, apples, dry cereal, deodorant, kleenex, toothpaste, and toothbrushes.
If anyone would like to make a donation to provide a hot meal, they can do so by making a donation through the Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation.
Sankey is hoping to provide support to those who need it with next Friday’s event.
“Hopefully do something that let’s these people know that there are people that care about them. ”
The team leader in tackles was impressed by the response for the initiative.
“It’s a great thing to see, that people share the same vision, it’s just helping others, doing our part. I’m in a very fortunate position to be able to professional football as long as I have, and I just want to give back, give back and show people that there are people who care and have been in the situation.”
Before Sankey hosts the charitable event during the Riders bye week, Saskatchewan will host Edmonton on Friday night at Mosaic Stadium.
Gameday coverage on 620 CKRM begins with Countdown to Kickoff at 4:30, opening kickoff with Michael Ball is at 7:30.
