Rainbow Cinemas in the Golden Mile Mall will be forever known for the delicious smell of fresh popcorn that spilled into the parking lot.
The theatre is in its final few days with the doors closing on Sunday, September 25, nearly 25 years since it opened in 1998.
Tim Bowen, the manager at Rainbow Cinemas says they’ve been busy seeing people try to experience the theatre one final time, “Quite busy these last couple weeks with the community coming out to see one final movie at the theatre. We’re having a lot of customers that were her as kids and they’re bringing their kids to see movies now.”
For their final showings, the theatre has lowered ticket prices to $1.50 in the afternoon and $2.50 during the evening; the same price tickets were in 1998.
For the theatre’s final days, they’ve brought back a well-known Canadian film called Brotherhood. The film also has strong Saskatchewan ties as it was co-financed by Creative Saskatchewan and co-produced with Saskatoon’s Karmafilm.
Bowen shares what other films people have the opportunity to see, “We’ve also got Beast, Where the Crawdads Sing, The Bad Guys, The Black Phone, Paws of Fury The Legend of Hank, Nope, Jurassic World Dominion, Three Thousand Years of Longing, Mrs. Harris goes to Paris, and The Duke.”
