Regina closing in on third straight year of triple-digit overdose deaths

Regina looks like it will hit triple digits in overdose deaths once again.

According to the August Board of Police Commissioners report, nine more people died due to apparent overdose deaths bringing the City’s total to 84 on the year.

That number is one more than last year’s record-breaking year.

The City is on pace to see 126 apparent overdose deaths, which would make it the third straight year the Queen City has seen over 100 people die from overdoses.

In 2020, 111 people died due to overdoses, with 160 people dying last year.

The report also shows that police responded to 1,003 overdose events in 2022, with 66 per cent of those events happening in Central Regina.
