FCC report says farmland prices in Sask rose 8.4 percent in first half of 2022

Farmland values in Saskatchewan continue to increase in 2022 despite rising interest rates.

FCC chief economist J.P. Gervais says strong farm cash receipts are among the factors pushing Saskatchewan farmland values up 8.4 percent in the first six months of 2022.

Saskatchewan is slightly above the national average of 8.1 percent for the first half of the year.

Gervais expects higher borrowing costs will slow the demand for farmland but also feels strong farm cash receipts help offset the impact of rising interest rates.

Ontario had the largest rise in farmland values in the first half of this year, up 15.6 percent.

Saskatchewan has the fourth highest jump.
