Nutrien provides 50 thousand dollars to Wascana Watershed Association

The Wascana and Upper Qu’Appelle Watersheds Association Taking Responsibility has received a 50 thousand dollar grant to support environmental stewardship of marginal lands.

Wascana watersheds chair David Sloan says his group has delivered more than 800 projects covering over 38 hundred acres.

Sloan is a farmer southeast of Regina in the Wascana Watershed.

He says the Nutrien funds will help his group find more farmers to participate in a program to conserve freshwater on marginal land.

He says support includes funding for tame forage, pollinator habitat, exclusion fencing and restoring wetlands.

Sloan says per acre payments are also available to reforest an area, plant a windbreak or riparian buffer.

The Wascana Watersheds Association boundaries extend from Humbodt to Tyvan and from Central Butte to east of Regina.
