“Control what we can control.” Blace Brown and Roughriders focusing on themselves ahead of final stretch of season

With the depth of the Saskatchewan Roughriders being tested at several occasions, some of the reserves have found themselves shuffling back and forth  on the active roster this year.

One of those players is defensive back Blace Brown.

This past Friday, Brown had the strong effort for the Riders as he made the start at halfback, replacing Amari Henderson. He made four tackles in the loss to the Tiger-Cats.

It marked the third time he suited up for the green and white in 2022, he recorded an interception for Saskatchewan in the Touchdown Atlantic game in Nova Scotia back in July.

Brown was also a late addition in the Riders loss to the Blue Bombers in the Labour  Day Classic rematch in Winnipeg on September 10.

After the game against Hamilton last week, the 26 year old appreciated the coaching staff trusting him to start against the Ti-Cats on short notice.

During Monday’s edition of the SportsCage, head coach Craig Dickenson felt the former Troy Trojan was the green and white’s top player on defence in terms of creating impact plays.

Along with his contributions to the defence, Brown made an impact on Friday with a blocked punt against the Tiger-Cats.

He pointed out that Dickenson teaches the players to not leave their feet when they’re attempting to block a punt.

“Put those hands out and put them together and block the punt, we had good communication, we saw what the team was doing, and we took advantage of it.”

Saskatchewan is currently in their third bye week of the 2022 season, the defensive back is expecting more of the team to stick around Regina through the week as they prepare for the final two games of the season.

Even though the Riders playoffs hopes are fading following the loss to Hamilton, Brown believes that the team will come to together and find a way to reverse their recent momentum trend.

“We got two games left we’re going to come together, do our best to do our part and control what we can control. ”

The next action for the Roughriders is Saturday, October 22 when they host the Calgary Stampeders. Opening kickoff is 5:00.
