Rams looking to clinch home playoff game against Dinos

The Saskatchewan Roughriders and Calgary Stampeders are not the only teams that will be competing in a red and green coloured battle on the gridiron.

The University of Regina Rams will visit the University Calgary Dinos on Saturday and there are plenty of implications on the line for the Rams, a victory would guarantee themselves a home playoff game during the Canada West semi-finals on Saturday November 5.

The Rams hold a one game edge over UBC for second spot with a 4-2 record. The Thunderbirds will be in action on Saturday afternoon when they host the University of Saskatchewan Huskies. The U of S are alone in first place at 6-0.

Regina is coming off a close 23-20 loss to the Huskies last Saturday in Saskatoon.

The Rams haven’t been in the Canada West Football playoffs since 2017 when they were defeated by the Thunderbirds in the semi-finals.

In 2016, the Rams finished on top of the league standings before losing to UBC in the semi-finals.

The Dinos have struggled in 2022, heading into Saturday’s contest, the University of Calgary ranks last in both team offence and defence. They have only averaged 18.2 points on offence while on defence they have allowed an average of 34.3 points a game.

Beginning this week, a few Rams players are leading the league in some key stats. Rams defensive end Anthony Bennett currently leads the Canada West in sacks with 6,5, while Riley Boersma is on top the league’s rankings for receptions with 34 and linebacker Ryder Varga has forced the most fumbles this season in the league with three.

Saturday’s Rams-Dinos game can be heard on RM2, with the pregame show at 12:45, the opening kickoff at 1:00.
