Alford closes super year in Saskatchewan with Western Division nominee for Most Outstanding Special Teams Player

On Tuesday it was announced that Saskatchewan Roughrider returner Mario Alford received the Western Division nominee for the Most Outstanding Special Teams Player.

After being acquired by Saskatchewan in July after Week 5, Alford would go on to break the Roughriders single season record for return touchdowns with four, and become the first player in green and white to complete the “Trifecta” (punt return touchdown, kickoff touchdown and missed field goal for a touchdown.). The 30 year old also finished first in the CFL with return touchdowns.

This season, he recorded 43 punt returns for 524 yards (12.2 avg) and one touchdown, 37 kickoff returns for 937 yards (25.3 avg) and two touchdowns, and three missed field goal returns for 129 yards (43 avg) and another major.

The winners of the CFL Awards will be announced on Thursday, November 17.
