RCMP has cancelled the dangerous person alert issued earlier today after one person was killed in Melville.

Police confirmed that another man sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the shooting that occurred in the area of the Country Inn Motel in Melville.

The injured man has been taken to hospital for treatment.

Police responded to the area following reports of shots fired at 9:19 a.m. this morning.

An initial investigation has determined that the incident is not believed to be random in nature and police believe there is not a heightened risk to the general public at this time.

As the investigation continues, there will continue to be an increased police presence in Melville and on roadways in and around the community.

Police are asking the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to police.
