Miller to meet LeBoldus in 6A High School football finals

Regina’s 6A High School Football championship will be decided tonight at Mosaic Stadium when the Miller Marauders meet the LeBoldus Golden Suns.

The Marauders advanced to the finals with an undefeated record, going 5-0 in the regular season before defeating Winston Knoll 29-1 in the semi-final.

Leboldus advanced to the championship thanks to a 26-16 win over Riffel in the other semi-final. The Golden Suns were 3-2 in the regular season, with both losses coming against Miller.

Marauders head coach, Dean Kuz joined Michael Ball on Thursday to preview the championship matchup.

Miller will be looking to repeat as city champions, Kuz said there are a couple of big reasons for their success, one is the support they receive from their principal, Liza Donnelly. He added they received a big boost in the student body when they added French immersion programs.

“We’re at around 1,200, I can remember a time when back in the day we had 600 at Miller.”

Kuz is anticipating locking up the city’s 6A championship will be more difficult than a provincial title since the Marauders and Golden Suns have had plenty of battles in recent history.

“In the last two year’s we’ve played each other about seven or eight times, so they know all of our ins and outs, and we kind of know theirs, so whoever is going to come up with some new wrinkles or whatever, but I’m just expecting  it to be just like it usually is, a very tight battle.”

He also added that in high school football, anything can happen.

Opening kickoff is 6:00.
