SaskWheat and Sask Winter Cereals Commission seek farm feedback on amalgamation

SaskWheat and the Saskatchewan Winter Cereals Development Commission are seeking producer feedback on potential amalgamation of the two commissions.

A consultation document on the proposal has been released on the internet for online comment by registered producers until December 11th.

Resolutions were passed in January of the two organizations to explore options for amalgamation.

An initial online survey from January through March found producers were overwhelmingly in favor of exploring options for amalgamation.

The consultation document proposes SaskWheat will assume the mandate of Winter Cereals commission, that is, winter wheat, fall rye and winter triticale, including research, market development and communication activities for these crops.

If there is support during current online consultations, resolutions will be presented and voted at the January annual meetings of the two groups.

If approved, the amalgamation would be set for August first.
