The highways ministry says winter weight season begins in all areas of the province Friday, December 2nd.

Winter weights allow shippers to increase the weight of their loads on secondary highways to primary weight.

The changes help the export-based economy by improving the efficiency of each truckload and reducing costs for shippers.

Typically winter weights begin November 16th each year and run through March 14th.

Winter weights were delayed this year due to a warmer than usual autumn, and additional time was needed for second roads to freeze.

Municipal roads are the responsibility of each rural municipality, which set their own weight limits.
