It was so cold in Saskatchewan the last couple of days that several communities have set cold weather records over the last couple of days.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, on Monday, Key Lake tied the old record low (-40.5 in 1991), while Southend Reindeer Area set a new record of -37.6, which beat their old record of -36.7 set in 1977.

Low maximum daily highs yesterday were set in Collins Bay (-32.4) and Key Lake (-29.7).

Record low temps were set in Assiniboia (-34.0), Estevan (-36-3), Hudson Bay (-35.4), Lloydminster (-34-2), Watrous (-36-3), and Weyburn (-37.0).

Record low daily maximum was set yesterday in Hudson Bay (-26.4).

While today’s early morning freezeout included record lows in Watrous (-37.9), Assiniboia (-34.7), Estevan (-37.3), Hudson Bay (-37.0), Elbow (-34-3), Moose Jaw (-34.5), Weyburn (-39.6), Yorkton (-34.4) and Broadview (-38.4).

Environment Canada said the temperatures records were derived from a selection of historical stations in each geographic area that were active during the period of record.
