Saskatchewan Trade and Export Development Minister Jeremy Harrison leaves today for an 8 day trade mission to Viet Nam.
Harrison says the goal is to strengthen ties with Viet Nam and promote agriculture commodities, natural resources and innovation.
He says the province recently opened an office in Ho Chi Minh city as an effort to diversify exports outside of China.
The mission will emphasize Saskatchewan produced farm products and potash.
The province is Vietnam’s largest supplier of dry peas, making 47 percent of all imports of the product to the nation.
Year to date exports from Saskatchewan to Vietnam are up by 50 percent in 2022, to 91.7 million dollars.
Much of the increase includes rising exports of potash, wood pulp, canola oil, lentils and weighing machinery.
There is also interest in working together on green energy like carbon capture, small modular reactor research and rare earth elements.
The trade mission returns December 16th.
