Protein Industries Canada channels almost 500 million dollars into plant-based food development over 4 years

Regina-based Protein Industries Canada has spearheaded almost half a billion dollars into plant-based food development in the past four years.

CEO Bill Greuel says Protein Industries Canada has advanced the food and ingredient sector through more than 50 innovative projects since its creation.

He says 477 million dollars has been geared into food development through government and food industry support.

Those new products entering the market include plant-based meat and fish substitutes, oat milk, and alternative cheese products.

Greuel says plant based foods will grow but there will also be rising demand for meat protein.

He says the plant-based food sector could reach 25 billion dollars in sales for Canada by 2035.
