Wedding bells aren’t ringing for couples who were planning on destination weddings in January – thanks to Sunwings cancelation of services to Regina and Saskatoon.
Saskatchewan couples with destination weddings planned for January received some devastating news yesterday – with air carrier Sunwing announcing that they would not be servicing Regina and Saskatoon until February.
Angella Hodel the Owner of Imagine Weddings and Event Planning says she’s feels for couples, as the cancelations are also affecting honeymoon plans.
“I have clients who were planning on having that destination wedding. They’re absolutely distraught and frustrated right now.”
Hodel says she has been working travel agents, but ultimately most will have to cancel the plans for their big day.
“Couples can postpone if they must absolutely have a destination wedding – but they can also consider an alternative “Pop up wedding”.
Hodel offers the service and says its a low cost alternative for couples in a pinch.
“We launched Regina Pop Up Weddings during the pandemic – and we have three dates already scheduled for the 2023 season. You can have a mini wedding with 30 or 40 people and have a beautiful experience.”
Hodel says the service is perfect for couples who are scrambling for new wedding plans.
Multiple couples are married on the same day , sharing the same vendors, making them more affordable.
“Each couple still gets there own private ceremony. They have a photographer included, cash bar and appetizers. Basically the whole wedding experience in a shortened period of time.”
Social media has been abuzz in the last 24 hours with couples posting about their cancelled nuptials.
With the airline refunding couples for cancelled flights and trips to locations like Mexico and Cuba – the reality of a delayed or cancelled wedding is becoming all too real for many.
