Man arrested in Cowessess after sending community into a lockdown

Cowessess First Nation was put into lockdown Saturday afternoon after reports of an armed man being in the community.

A public service announcement was posted to the communities Facebook page just after 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The post said that a man who “may be armed with a gun” had abandoned his vehicle near the community’s water treatment plant.

During the lockdown, Saskatchewan RCMP confirmed that officers from its Broadview detachment were searching for a man that attempted to break into a house and uttered threats.

The man was eventually arrested and taken into police custody.

The RCMP did not confirm whether a weapon was involved.

There were no injuries from the incident.
