Employee with Weyburn school division charged with sexual assault

According to the Weyburn Police, a man employed by Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division in Weyburn is facing multiple charges that involve a female minor.

Late at night on January 3rd, parents went into the Weyburn Police Station concerned over communication that their daughter was having with an adult man over the internet.

“An investigation was started and the adult male was charged with three charges. Those include sexual interference, sexual assault, and invitation to sexual touching,” says Brent Vandesype, Deputy Cheif with the Weyburn Police Service.

He said that the communication between the minor and the adult began over email and then escalated to Facebook messenger.

He also confirmed that the victim is a female student under the Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division.

Police have not released the name of the man and the school division has not released his position or role with the division.

The situation is currently still under investigation and Vandesype says further charges could possibly be laid.

The man has been released under conditions and is expected to attend his first court date on February 28.
