Bedard’s 100th career goal not enough as Broncos defeat Pats 4-2

 

The Regina Pats three-game winning streak was snapped on Friday night as they were defeated by the Swift Current Broncos 4-2.

Connor Bedard opened the scoring as he notched his 37th goal of the season. The goal was also marked the 100th career goal for the Pats captain in his Western Hockey League. He became the fifth player to score his 100th goal in the WHL before his 18th birthday.

Parker Berge added his second goal of the this season to break a 1-1 tie. Swift Current would respond with two goals in a 34 seconds span to take the lead.

Former Pat Drew Englot ended up of scoring the game winning goal for Swift Current.

Drew Sim made 26 saves in the loss.

The Pats went 1/2 on the powerplay while the Broncos were 2/6 on the extra man advantage.

During the contest, the Pats lost a couple of key players in Riley Ginnell and Zack Stringer.

Following the game, head coach and general manager John Paddock said it the loss of the two players created a big gap in their lineup.

“That’s big losses, big holes. ”

He also noted the Pats had a discipline problem on Friday night.

“We took too many penalties, some of them were really stupid.”

With the victory, Swift Current moves into a tie with the Pats for seventh spot in the Eastern Conference at 44 points, the Broncos hold a three game advantage over the Pats.

Regina won’t have to wait long to gain some revenge. The two teams will meet tomorrow night at the Brandt Centre.
