The tradition continues. LIT is back.

In another sign that normalcy has returned to the sports community in Regina, LIT (Luther Invitational Tournament) returns today.

The 2021 edition of LIT was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year’s event was limited to Regina-based teams in a mini version of the tournament.

Athletic Director and Teacher at Luther Troy Casper, joined Michael Ball on the SportsCage to preview the 69th edition of LIT.

This weekend’s tournament will feature eight boys teams and eight girls teams competing for their respective titles.
Local teams that will be involved include both girls and boys teams from Riffel, the Martin boys and the Winston Knoll girls teams.

Games will be taking place at both Luther gyms over the next three days.

“Best of both worlds that old gym is super loud and super tight.” said Casper.

He added there are a lot of great teams in Saskatchewan.

“There’s a lot of parity in the province.”

Along with the Saskatchewan teams, there will be teams outside of the province competing. Squads from Alberta and Manitoba will be travelling this weekend to take part in LIT.

With the return of the storied basketball tournament, it’s expected to be a capacity crowd for both gyms over the next three days.

The first games tip-off today at noon.
