The Saskatchewan Winter Games kicks off Sunday with the opening ceremony

The Saskatchewan Winter Games are set to begin this weekend with the opening ceremony kicking things off on Sunday.

The ceremony will be at the University of Regina Kinesiology Building Gym #3 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The address is 3925 Wascana Parkway.

“We’ll kick it all off with an athlete parade similar to what you see in the Olympics where all nine district march in in their district colors and they carry their banners in, ” says Leanne Schellenberg, Games Manager of the Saskatchewan Winter Games.

“(There will be) performances by the Arcana Kings. We have Terrance Littletent who’s going to do hoop dancing. We have lots of great local performances that are going to make it a really fun way to kick off the games.”

Surface parking will be available in lot 6 and paid underground parking will be available just past the entrance of the surface lot.

Ushers will ensure that people are escorted to reserved VIP priority seating.

At the event, there will be speeches from Elder Pahtayken, MLA Derek Myers, Mayor Sandra Masters, and CFO Ken Hillier with Teine Energy who is sponsoring the games.

The competition will take place over the next seven days with nine district teams, and 16 different sports.

Tickets for the opening ceremony and for the game events are still available. For more information, click here.
