Mexico buys record amount of Saskatchewan farm goods

Saskatchewan’s exports to Mexico reached a record one billion dollars last year.

The provincial government says 97 percent were agri-food exports to Mexico.

The single biggest increase was canola oil, with shipments up almost 80 percent to 206 million dollars, making up 20 percent of all exports.

Canola oil, seed and non-durum wheat make up the top three exports to Mexico.

Canola seed was 55 percent of total shipments to Mexico worth over 557 million dollars.

Canadian Federation of Agriculture vice president Todd Lewis of Grey welcomes the new record shipments, calling it another Saskatchewan success story.
