Sim and Bedard deliver in the clutch for the Pats in 4-3 win over Brandon

The Regina Pats were able to extend their winning streak to three games after a 4-3 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings on Friday night.

Connor Bedard scored the game-winning goal for the Pats with 1:55 remaining in the third period to give the Pats the victory.

Drew Sim earned the win for Regina with 44 saves.

Alexander Suzdalev had a goal and an assist. Rounding out the scoring for the Pats was Matteo Michaels and Stanislav Svozil.

After the game Ken Schneider says Sim’s key saves throughout the game was the biggest reason for the win against the Wheat Kings.

“I mean we wouldn’t be in the game quite honestly.”

He added that the goalie is going to have to keep up this trend down the playoff stretch drive.

“If we’re going to win, he’s got to be a part of it.”

The Pats assistant coach added that even though Bedard had a relatively quiet night before the game-winning goal, he added the 17-year old was able to find a way to succeed in a tight defensive game.

“Good players find ways to score goals and win games. ”

With the victory, Regina extended their lead for sixth spot in the Eastern Conference to four points over the idle Calgary Hitmen and Medicine Hat Tigers.

The Swift Current Broncos were defeated by the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday as the Pats lead the ninth place Broncos by six points.

Schneider says Regina is continuing to look for more points this weekend.

“We’re still in the hunt here trying to find our way to the playoffs, so this a big win for us tonight. We’re trying to separate ourselves from that group of  about four teams, so tomorrow’s night game becomes even more important. ”

The total attendance for Friday’s game in Brandon was 5,954.

On Saturday night the Pats and the Wheat Kings will meet in the backend of the home and home set at the Brandt Centre.
