After eight hours of discussions, Regina’s executive committee decided that more public consultation and further discussion were needed for the catalyst committee projects.
At Wednesday’s meeting, where the catalyst committee’s report was presented, councillors voted to push further discussion and votes on the projects until March 22.
Before the meeting, a public survey will be completed for feedback regarding the location of the proposed multi-purpose event centre.
The catalyst committee has recommended building the arena downtown, but residents have voiced they would like it elsewhere.
The council was initially supposed to vote on the report and the projects at the March 8 city council meeting.
Now council will just be discussing and voting on recommendations for the new aquatic centre at next week’s city council meeting due to the need to apply for federal funding.
Coun. Andrew Stevens brought forward the amendment that the projects be discussed later, as he wanted to give people more time to digest information and have a say.
Coun. Bob Hawkins also brought forward an amendment to allow for appropriate public engagement opportunities related to the committee’s recommendations.
More details on the public survey will be released from the City of Regina in the coming days.
