Alleged shoplifter threatened loss prevention officer with knife

Wednesday at about 9:20 pm, Regina police were called to a business on the 3800 block of Sherwood Drive.
Police were told a man has stolen merchandise and when he was pursued by a loss prevention officer, he punched the office and threatened them with a knife.
Police arriver and observed the suspect with the merchandise, warning him to stop. The suspect attempted to flee on foot but police stopped him and arrested him. Police located and secured the knife.
John Trail, 41, was charged with assault and shoplifting.
He made his first appearance on the charges today in provincial court.
