CN Rail has reached a tentative contract with the union representing mechanics, intermodal and clerical workers.
CN and Unifor have announced four new collective agreements covering 3,000 railway employees, who had voted earlier this month in favor of strike action.
The employees were in a position to strike as early as next Tuesday, if 72 hours notice had been given.
Details of the tentative agreements will not be released until ratification votes are held.
No word on when that will occur.
The two sides had been negotiating since October with all the collective agreements expiring at the end of December.
