Board of Internal Economy slashes scheduled MLA raises

The Saskatchewan Legislature’s Board of Internal Economy has approved changes to the pay structure for the Legislature’s members.

MLAs would have seen their already-six-figure salaries rise another 6.8 per cent due to a formula that was based on the consumer price index, but instead the board changed the raises to a maximum of three per cent or a minimum of zero per cent.

The 6.8 per cent would have bumped basic MLA’s pay up to $110,303.38.

The board has responsibility for all matters of financial and administrative affecting the Legislature. The composition of the board includes the Speaker, two cabinet ministers, two government private members and two opposition members.
