Saskatchewan to Get Slightly Warmer in Coming Days

While the headline for this story should probably read – “Saskatchewan finally crawls out from longest winter on record” – hyperbole and weather don’t often mix.

What we can report is that Environment and Climate Change meteorologist Brian Luzy confirmed that indeed – spring has sprung on the prairie.

The temperatures this week are trending to be above seasonal – with 1 – 2 cm of snow falling on thursday and melting before the afternoon.

“we had a colorado low move through late last week. This was a game changer as far as warm air vs cold air.”

Additionally an upper ridge is bringing warm air from the pacific ocean and causing above normal temperatures on the prairies.

Luzy says this trend has ushered in the warm weather – and says that over  the next week much of Saskatchewan will see temperatures of higher than 10 degrees.

When asked what the likelihood of this reporter hitting a patio on Saturday when the mercury is supposed to raise to 18 degrees – Luzy said

“It’ll be nicer than it was just a few days ago – but I can’t guarantee patio weather.”

I’ll take it.
