North Stars and Bombers set to meet in SJHL Finals

 

The battle for the first Canterra Seeds Cup will begin in North Battleford tonight as the Battlefords North Stars begin the best-of-seven league finals against the Flin Flon Bombers.

Battlefords advanced to the league finals after defeating the Weyburn Red Wings in the opening round in five games and then finished off the Melfort Mustangs with a four-game sweep.

Meanwhile, the Bombers had to overcome a 3-2 deficit in the first round against the Estevan Bruins, as Flin Flon came back to defeat the Bruins in seven games. In the second round of the playoffs, the Bombers eliminated the Humboldt Broncos in five games.

During the regular season, the North Stars and Bombers met four times. Battlefords picked up a pair of wins against Flin Flon in November. The first game was played as a neutral site game in Wilkie, then second contest was back in North Battleford. In January the two teams met for a pair of contests at the Whitney Forum with each team winning one game in the back-to-back affair.

The leading scorers in the SJHL post-season is very similar to the regular season stats with the North Stars occupying the top three spots in the playoff leading scorers. Jake Southgate leads the way with 18 points (4G-14A), Kian Bell has 17 (13G-4A) and Holden Doell has 16 points (4G-12A) for Battlefords.

Game 1 & 2 are Friday and Saturday in North Battleford.

The two teams will break for nearly a week, before resuming the series in Flin Flon next Friday, April 21 and Saturday, April 22 for Games 3 and 4.

If necessary, Game 5 would be Tuesday, April 25 hosted by the North Stars. Game 6 would be in Flin Flon on Friday, April 29.

A deciding Game 7 if required, would be back in North Battleford on Wednesday, May 3.
