Regina woman arrested on a assault charge

On Friday, at approximately 12:25 p.m., police went to the 2900 block of Dewdney Avenue for a report of a female outside a business, armed with a knife, stabbing tires on vehicles in the parking lot.

According to information provided to police, the female had originally shown up at the business armed with a sledgehammer, however, the sledgehammer had been taken away.

Police arrived and located the 23-year-old female suspect who started running away.

She was taken into custody with the assistance of a Police Canine Unit.

Through investigation, Police learned the woman had threatened a staff member with the knife and was on conditions not to possess a knife.

There was no damage to any vehicles in the parking lot as originally reported.

Police escorted the woman to the hospital where she was treated for injuries from being apprehended by the Police Service Dog.

23-year-old Laina Avery Tuckanow, of Regina, is charged with assault with a weapon and breach of undertaking.

Tuckanow will appear in Regina Provincial Court on these charges on May 18.
