At around 6 a.m. Saturday morning, police were dispatched to a report of an armed street robbery in the 1400 block of Garnet Street.
The 16-year-old male suspect had run off before the police arrived.
After a short foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody without incident.
When the suspect was searched, Police located and seized a loaded .22 caliber rifle concealed in his jacket as well as additional ammunition in his pants pocket.
The initial complainant of the robbery was uncooperative and would not provide a statement to the police.
A 16-year-old boy cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act but is charged with seven different firearms offences including:
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose.
- Possession of Firearm Knowing Possession is Unauthorized.
- Carry a Concealed Weapon.
- Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition.
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered With.
- 2x Prohibited Possession Contrary to an Order.
The youth will make his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on Monday.
