Rachel Homan comes from behind to defeat Kerri Einarson at the 2023 KIOTI Tractors Champions Cup

Even though she trailed 4-0 after 3 ends, Rachel Homan was able to battle back to force an extra end in the finals of the KIOTI Champions Cup against Kerri Einarson.

With the hammer in the ninth end, Einarson’s final shot came up short by an inch, allowing Homan’s rink to steal a point in the pivotal end to claim a 6-5 victory.

Homan felt Sunday’s victory was a gritty one after falling into an early deficit.

“We struggled with the ice conditions early and kept making shots and unreal feeling to win and battle back.”

Despite Homan owning the hammer in the opening three ends, Einarson was able to steal points in to grab a 4-0 advantage before the Ottawa based team was able to stage her comeback.

“We just kept learning from our mistakes.”

Homan added, “We kept thinking that the ice was okay, but it got really slow and we had to believe it. So when we finally believed it, we started making more shots.”

Sunday’s matchup between Homan and Einarson was the third time the two rinks faced off against each other this season, with Homan ending up with a 2-1 edge.

With the win at the 2023 KIOTI Tractors Champions Cup, Homan’s team won the grand prize of $25,000.

Rounding out the Homan sqaud this weekend were third Tracy Fleury, second Emma Miskew and lead Rachelle Brown, who was filling in for Sarah Wilkes.

Einarson’s team settled for the runner-up prize of $17,000. The three-time winner at the Scotties, claimed the Pinty’s Cup last month.
